Salzburg

This is post 5 in my series of blog/journal entries from my Europe trip. The text may be incomplete, fuzzy, with a side of terrible grammar. Please excuse the mess.

Today we left Vienna for Salzburg. We hopped on a train and arrived in Salzburg around 12. We checked in to our hostel but it was raining very hard. We stayed in our room until we were too hungry and then left to get some food. We found a nice place with Schnitzel which was awesome. I forgot my wallet so I had to bail out and get some cash real quick.

We spent the rest of the day on Rick Steve’s walking tour which was fun. After finishing we went to the Augstiner Brau which is a monastery that brews in Salzburg. It has a beer garten and hall that holds 1600 people. I had 1.5 liters and a schnitzel.

Today we slept in a bit because Lindy was being lazy. We got up and headed to the Salzburg; “The Castle”. The castle was fun and was a perfect example of a medieval castle. It is one of the biggest in Europe! We had a nice lunch up on the castle as well. I had my first Steigl beer as well!

We also stumbled upon a huge farmers market a short walk from our hotel. We got breakfast, and I bought a new wallet there.

Spent the day at Obersalzburg today. We got breakfast and headed for the bus which took us to Bertchesgarten. Lindy felt sick on the bus which is no fun. At Bertchesgarten we switched buses to take us to Obersalzburg. Once there we went to the museum about Hitler’s compound there. We walked through a small amount of his bunkers as well. We then took another bus to the top of Eagle’s next which had great views. It is also the only original free standing building from Hitler’s compound. After this we ate lunch at the Eagle’s Nest and took another bug to Lake Koingsee. We stayed a bit long and had to get a Taxi back to make the Salzburg bus. We made it back and ate at a small pub/Biergarten on the way.
