Beer Review: Staropramen

Well, I decided to start doing beer reviews, to keep track of all the different beers I've had. Today I am beginning with a brand new beer (for me) from Prague Czech Republic, Staropramen.

According to Staropramen, they are the biggest and most consumed beer from Prague. Having spent 5 days there earlier this year, I can tell you that I either have terrible vision, or I never saw this beer, period. I would have tried it for sure had I seen it, but alas. The first thing I notice about this beer is that its not piss yellow like most Czech Pilsners, and that it immediately has a more malty vs hoppy taste to it. In my limited experience this is very unusual, most Czech Pilsners like Pilsner Urquell are decently hoppy without a huge amount of malt backbone. It's a nice change for one of my favorite beer styles. I thoroughly enjoyed this beer and I'm quite disappointed that I could only find this beer in Ft. Collins during my Christmas Vacation.
